Our Bus Ministry!
The vision of Bethany Free Will Baptist Bus Ministry is two-fold. One, under the direct commandment of Matthew 28: verse 19 and 20, Mark 16:15 and 16, and many other like passages of scriptures, the ministry strives to reach the lost in the communities it ministers in with the Gospel of the Lord Jesus Christ. Secondly, we understand that the Bus Ministry cannot exist without the Sunday school, which will provide an easy transition to and from the Sunday school as well as a good level of communication with the Sunday school teachers.
As the Bus Ministry moves into the future, we look forward to more bus routes and many new faces. If you have a desire to learn more about this ministry or to be picked up, please contact our pastor, Preacher Sinkhorn at Bethany Church at 757-853-7300.
Why have a Bus Ministry?
The Bible says, "Go out into the highways and hedges, and compel them to come in, that my house may be filled." (Luke 14:23) We realize that some people (especially children) are unable to attend church on their own. Bethany Church has made a way for these people to come to church. Our purpose is to reach children and their families with the gospel of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. With this goal in mind, our bus ministry continues and the desire is to be a blessing in Norfolk and Virginia Beach, Virginia.
How does the Bus Ministry work?
Every Sunday morning Bethany Church sends a bus to pick up people in our area and bring them to church. On the bus, they are supervised and taught by friendly bus workers.
Bethany Bus has a CDL-certified bus driver and a trained Bus Captain to help with children to and from church. Our Bus Captain Ken Stipes, with Brother Charles Twisdale, goes out every Saturday at 10:00 am to visit their riders and sign up new families.
On Sunday. Brother Ken knocks on the door to insure safe passage from the home and to the bus, letting the parents know that their children are on their way to Bethany Church. Upon arrival at the church, they are taken to their age-appropriate classes. After church is over, the bus is loaded and everyone is taken back home. Once again Brother Ken walks the children to their doors and waits for an acknowledgment that there is someone home. Children are never left when no one is at home.
How much does it cost?
Our Bus Ministry provides safe transportation for you and your children at no cost to your family. We would love to hear from you! If you or someone in your family needs a ride to church, please call the Church at 853-7300 or Brother Ken's cell 675-74447 or send an e-mail to Kenusmc68@aol.com
What happens on the bus?
Our Bus Captain, Brother Ken Stipes, works hard to have contests and programs on the bus to make it an exciting time.
Where does Bethany Bus run?
We currently have one route starting in the Southern Plaza Shopping Center, then travel to Willoughby Spit and return to the Norfolk Military Housing Complex. Once completed, we proceed down Hampton Blvd. to West 37th Street, to New York Street, then back to Granby to Princess Anne Road to Cape Henry and return to Bethany Church.
How can I ride the Bus?
If you are in our area, we wold love to pick you up! Give us a call at 757-853-7300 (Bethany Church) or 675-4447 (Brother Ken Stipes' Cell Phone) and a bus will be by this Sunday.
